Super Antioxidant Protein Smoothie

For an extra healthy boost, try this Super Antioxidant Protein Smoothie which is full of antioxidants*. The berries are a powerful superfood, as they are disease fighting antioxidants.

This is one of my favourite smoothies.

Ingredients

300ml coconut water, coconut water kefir, almond or rice milk

2 tbsp coconut or plain yoghurt

1 tbsp chia seeds

1 tbsp ground linseed sunflower and almond meal

1/2 banana

1/2 cup fresh pomegranate seeds or berries (depending on season)

1/2 cucumber

1 large handful spinach, rocket or kale leaves or a mix of all of these

1-2 scoops protein powder and 1 scoop greens such as spirulina, chlorella and wheatgrass


Method

Place in a blender and process until smooth. Makes 1 large serving or 2 small servings.

 

This recipe is gluten-free and dairy-free, making it a great breakfast option for anyone in the family. It is also refreshing as a summertime smoothie and is also a tasty pick-me-up during the mid-morning or mid-afternoon slump.

* Antioxidants are compounds in food that scavenge and neutralise free radicals. Free radicals are compounds that can cause harm if their levels become too high in your body. Your body has its own antioxidant defenses to keep free radicals in check, however antioxidants, which are also found in food, especially fruits, vegetables and other plant based, whole foods, are a added defense for the body.
